SHE MADE

Margherita Fontana

At the end of the Forties, while Italian economy was still recovering, the Caprese factory “La Tessitrice dell’isola” originally set up by Edwin Cerio in the 1930s, developed into the more aristocratic artisan atelier of the Baroness Clarette Gallotti. Her ‘art applied to fashion’ made the name of Capri famous worldwide. A fashion “caprese” style was born, and it was a “recognizable locally created dressing style” still identifiable today.

It is on the island that classic silhouettes came to be, such as the beloved Capri pants, inspired by the hardworking Italian fishermen. Out of Capri’s long tradition of master tailoring, designers Emilio Pucci and Livio De Simone began their careers working under the beauty of the famous Faraglioni.

The fifties were a golden age for the isle of Capri; a time of vitality, joie de vivre and love of excess. Favored by Hollywood celebrities such as Jackie Onassis and Audrey Hepburn. Y’AM Capri, which harks back to that classic and timeless style of the island, offers a nostalgic collection that captures the essence of la dolce vita and the enchantment of the island.

The brand is for the modern, independent traveler who is eternally curious and exudes an aura of lightness and femininity, regardless of age.

Each garment is carefully designed and produced in Capri and the Amalfi Coast, while supporting craftspersons and textile traditions.

Valeria gained inspiration from both her grandmothers, one notably for classic style and grace; the other as a renowned machinist. Valeria would slide into her grandmother’s Ferragamo slippers and dance around the house, modeling the handmade garments her

paternal grandmother would sew for her. This is where her fascination with machine work and technique came to play.

She didn’t major in fashion, instead opted to study a masters in Marketing Management at Bocconi University.

Y’AM Capri was established in 2017, inspired by the natural beauty and unique atmosphere of the island. They employ local artisans and engage a supply chain of family-owned workshops. Using quality materials, such as certified OEKO-TEX linens, and producing small batch, Y’AM Capri has a sensible approach to sustainability and waste-management, by repurposing fabric scraps. They are also invested in supporting Saving the Children foundation.

For a young label steeped in cultural history and organic origins, we’re sure you’ll fall in love with the nostalgia of the Y’AM Capri collection and Valeria, the creator behind the brand.
