Silk is an organic fiber produced by the silk worm, though its production process is rather grim. By boiling cocoons, workers remove silk coils and discard the cocoons along with the worms that had been hard at work spinning silk inside. Ahisma, or ‘peace silk’ allows silk worms to spin harmoniously without interfering with their quality of life. This silk scarf is wholly biodegradable.
Founded in 2012, Slow Factory has served as a fashion outlet for environmental and social activism and as a 501c3 public service organization, works at the intersection of Climate & Culture; building anti-racist community and growing climate-positive global movements. In its final collection, Slow Factory collaborated with NASA imaging to screen print actual space footage onto silk accessories.
