While the SHE MADE series attributes the many female founders, creators and innovators in our community and the incredible impact they are making on our environment and economy, there are oftentimes when we meet intelligent men who share these values… and so, the series title falls a little out of place, at least until you begin to read his story and you just as soon forget about titles to focus on what’s most important!
Bespoke marbled silk skirts, sheer collars, billowing balloon sleeves. A collection of gentle pastels and ladylike cuts adorn the hangers in Mongzar’s London atelier. The young British designer has presented his eponymous line at London’s trendiest pop ups and retailers including Wolf and Badger, Priest London, Scoop! and Lone Design Club (LDC) with rave reviews.
He describes his signature marbling process ‘live and let live’ as water and dye act independently and whirl together to create something vividly beautiful. Delicate and unique results represent an ideal feminine fluidity and liberation.
Vegetables are scrubbed, soaked, strung and squeezed to empty out their natural color and used to dye each panel by hand. Panels of silk are sewn together by manual operation and in small quantities to minimize waste.
The luxurious brand has its founder at the core of design and production, where #whomademyclothes transparency is honored.
Edward Mongzar is a craftsperson, an artist and a believer that all women deserve liberation. It is ambassadors for change, like Edward, that we bend our own definitive guidelines on the She Made series to welcome distinguished male counterparts to the hot seat.
