WORDS BY FAITH LEMASTERS
Beth Richards was interested in the arts and creative self-expression from a very early age. She grew up in a “sporty” family, but gravitated towards painting, crafting, dancing, and music. In high school, Beth was planning to go to a school where she could become a full-time dancer. She had one elective class to take before transferring, and it happened to be a clothing class – ultimately, this sparked Beth’s interest in pursuing fashion as a career.
Some of Beth’s early role models were her mother (“very supportive, super lucky”), Betsey Johnson, and Madonna. Speaking on Madonna, Beth noted the influence the entertainer had at the time as an outspoken feminist artist – “very liberating for everyone.” These values of creativity and feminism have helped shape Beth into the designer and business owner she is today.
